The Texas Rangers and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation are set to host special events for local children as part of Major League Baseball's annual Play Ball Weekend, June 3-4.
On Saturday, June 3, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Little League® Urban Initiative Program will host a private event at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at the Mercy Street Sports Complex presented by Toyota from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The day on the diamond for youngsters will feature a baseball clinic with guest appearances from Rangers players.
The activities move to the Texas Rangers Youth Ballpark on Sunday, June 4, where the festivities will include Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams reading a proclamation in celebration of Play Ball Weekend.
Sunday's event is designed to encourage playing baseball for enjoyment outside the normal routine of games and practices. Stations at the baseball clinic will be facilitated by Youth Ballpark coaches, and the day will also feature guest appearances from Rangers alumni, Rangers Captain, and the Six Shooters. Activities are scheduled to run from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
Youth who attend Sunday's clinic will receive a voucher for two tickets for a future Rangers game and a commemorative plastic ball/bat set.
Play Ball Weekend will also be celebrated at the Sunday, June 4 Rangers game against the Astros at Globe Life Park, as the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will welcome 1,000 members of the Rangers RBI programs and their families to the game. They will also participate in a pre-game parade and activities.
The Play Ball initiative, supported by both USA Baseball and USA Softball, is the sport's collective effort to encourage young people and communities to participate in all types of baseball- or softball-related activities. Play Ball events are MLB's signature youth engagement activity during the professional and amateur baseball and softball calendar, including key dates throughout the MLB offseason and into the World Series.
