BOSTON, MA -- Prior to tonight’s game against the Texas Rangers, the Boston Red Sox recalled left-handed pitcher Bobby Poyner from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for Poyner on the 25-man roster, the club optioned left-handed pitcher Josh Taylor to Pawtucket.

Poyner, 26, has made two appearances for the Red Sox this season, allowing two earned runs over one inning. The left-hander has surrendered zero runs in his last six outings for Pawtucket since May 25, throwing 8 1/3 innings in that time. Selected by Boston in the 14th round of the 2015 June Draft, Poyner made the Red Sox’ 2018 Opening Day roster and has appeared in 22 Major League games, striking out 24 batters and walking only five with 10 runs allowed in 23.1 innings (3.86 ERA). Major League left-handed hitters are 4-for-22 (.182) with zero home runs against Poyner.

Taylor, 26, made five relief appearances for Boston after being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on May 29. During the first Major League stint of his career, the left-hander allowed six runs with six strikeouts over five innings (10.80 ERA). He most recently appeared in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader against Tampa Bay, in which he allowed four runs on six hits in one inning. Acquired by Boston from Arizona in May 2018, Taylor is 23-34 with a 4.39 ERA (216 ER/442.2 IP) in 154 Minor League appearances (62 starts) within the Philadelphia (2014-15), Arizona (2015-18), and Boston (2018-19) organizations.
