The Boston Red Sox today returned right-handed pitcher Ben Taylor from his injury rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket, activated him from the 10-day disabled list, and optioned him to Pawtucket.
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Taylor, 24, was placed on the disabled list on July 26 (retroactive to July 23) with a left intercostal strain. He made three rehab appearances with the PawSox, allowing only one hit with three strikeouts in 2.2 scoreless innings. The right-hander made his first Opening Day roster with Boston in 2017 despite having never pitched above the Double-A level prior to the season. Selected by the Red Sox in the seventh round of the 2015 June Draft, he has posted a 5.19 ERA (10 ER/17.1 IP) with 18 strikeouts and nine walks in 11 appearances over three major league stints. In his last three games with Boston, Taylor has struck out four batters and walked none in 3.2 scoreless innings.
