Colorado Rockies recall right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman from Triple-A Albuquerque

Right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte optioned to Triple-A

DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Jeff Hoffman from Triple-A Albuquerque and have optioned right-hander Yency Almonte to Triple-A.

Hoffman, 26, will be making his second start for the Rockies this season tonight against the Baltimore Orioles ... made his first start of the season April 23 against Washington and allowed four runs on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts across five innings ... was optioned to Triple-A the following day ... has gone 3-3 with a 7.57 ERA (35.2 IP, 30 ER) 17 walks and 44 strikeouts in seven appearances, six starts, with Albuquerque ... since making his Major League debut in 2016, has gone 6-10 with a 5.92 ERA (144.1 IP, 95 ER), 64 walks and 115 strikeouts across 38 career appearances, 24 starts ... originally selected in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft by Toronto, he was acquired by the Rockies July 27, 2015 along with RHP Miguel Castro, INF Jose Reyes and RHP Jesus Tinoco in exchange for RHP LaTroy Hawkins and SS Troy Tulowitzki.

Almonte, 24, made five appearances in his second stint with the Rockies this season after being recalled from Triple-A on May 4 ... over those five games, combined for 6.2 scoreless innings pitched in which he allowed three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts ... in eight relief appearances across both stints this season has no record with a 2.45 ERA (11.0 IP, 3 ER), six walks and eight strikeouts ... with Albuquerque, is 0-2 with a 4.32 ERA (8.1 IP, 4 ER), six walks and 11 strikeouts … made his Major League debut for the Rockies on June 21, 2018 vs. New York-NL and has gone 0-0 with a 2.10 ERA (25.2 IP, 6 ER), 10 walks and 22 strikeouts in 22 relief appearances in his career with Colorado.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
