All-Star outfielder George Springer of the Houston Astros and starting pitcher Mike Fiers of the Oakland Athletics have been named the W.B. Mason American League Co-Players of the Week, and starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been named the W.B. Mason National League Player of the Week. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.

Springer claimed his second career AL Player of the Week Award, and his first since the period ending June 4, 2017. Fiers also earned his second career weekly award, previously winning on August 23, 2015 following his first career no-hitter. Ryu was awarded his first career weekly honor, and became the first Dodgers hurler to win NL Player of the Week since his rotation-mate Clayton Kershaw for the week ending July 10, 2017.

• Posted a slash line of .519/.563/1.148 with 10 runs scored, 14 hits, two doubles, five home runs, 10 RBI and three walks across seven games played.

• Among AL leaders, finished his tremendous week first in batting average, hits, home runs, runs scored, on-base percentage and total bases (31); tied for first in extra-base hits (7); and second in slugging percentage and RBI.

• Posted a season-best nine-game hitting streak from April 30th-May 9th, which included four home runs and nine RBI over a six-game stretch from May 4th-9th.

• On Sunday, became just the third leadoff hitter in Major League history to notch at least five hits, two home runs and five runs scored in a single game, joining Matt Carpenter (2018) and Tim Teufel (1983).

• Entering play today, paces the AL in runs scored (35), hits (51), home runs (15), RBI (37), extra-base hits (24), slugging percentage (.660) and OPS (1.060).

• Recorded the second no-hitter of his career, and the 300th no-hitter in MLB history on Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

• Fiers’ no-hitter was the eighth in Oakland history (since 1968), the 13th in franchise history, and the first since Sean Manaea last season on April 21st.

• Became the 35th pitcher in Baseball history, and just the fifth active Major League pitcher with multiple no-hitters, joining Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Jake Arrieta and Homer Bailey.

• Accomplished the feat on 131 pitches, the most in any Major League outing this season, and the most in a no-hitter since he needed 134 pitches for his first no-hitter on August 21, 2015.

• Earned the victory in each of his two dominant starts last week, improving to 5-1 on the season. Across 17.0 innings pitched, logged 15 strikeouts without surrendering a run on five hits and one walk.

• Recorded his third career complete game, and second complete-game shutout on Tuesday night vs. Atlanta, scattering four hits to go along with six strikeouts. His 93 pitches in the outing were the fewest by a Dodgers hurler in a shutout since Hiroki Kuroda in 2008.

• In yesterday’s outing against the Washington Nationals, lost his no-hit bid in the eighth inning before exiting with 8.0 scoreless innings and nine punchouts.

• Permitted his third walk of the season in yesterday’s start (52.1 IP), and his first since April 20th. Enters play today with an 18.00 SO/BB rate, easily the best in the Majors.

PLAY OF THE WEEK: Home-Run Robbing Catch by Jackie Bradley Jr. of the Boston Red Sox

2018 Gold Glove Award recipient Jackie Bradley Jr. earned his first Play of the Week honor with a home-run robbing catch of Orioles slugger Trey Mancini. In the bottom of the 11th inning in a 1-1 game, Bradley ranged back to left-center field to climb the wall and come up with the sensational catch, preventing a walk-off homer. The Red Sox ultimately won the contest 2-1. Additional Play of the Week candidates included Josh Reddick’s home-run robbing ninth inning catch, which prevented a go-ahead three-run round-tripper; Aníbal Sánchez’s behind-the-back snag from the pitcher’s mound; Ramón Laureano’s home-run saving catch, which also helped preserve Fiers’ no-hitter; Andrelton Simmons’ over-the-shoulder catch in shallow center field; and Adam Jones’ home-run robbing catch in right field to preserve a 1-1 tie.
