Stephen Piscotty placed on IL; Franklin Barreto recalled

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Oakland A’s have placed outfielder Stephen Piscotty on the 10-day injured list with a right knee sprain. Taking his place on the 25-man roster will be infielder Franklin Barreto, who has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Piscotty, 28, was hitting .242 (72-for-297) with 37 runs, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 9 home runs and 34 RBI in 76 games with Oakland this season. He missed two games June 14-15 following successful surgery on June 13 to remove a melanoma from his right ear. He was hitting .353 (24-for-68) against left-handed pitchers, which ranks fourth in the American League in batting average against lefties.

Barreto, 23, hit .296 (82x277) with 65 runs, 24 doubles, 5 triples, 12 home runs, 48 RBI with a .549 slugging mark in 73 games with Las Vegas. Over his last 40 games with the Aviators, he hit .358 (58x162) with 42 runs, 19 doubles, 3 triples, 10 home runs, 39 RBI and a .398 on-base percentage with a .698 slugging mark after starting the year hitting .209 (24x115) with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 9 RBI in his first 33 games. He appeared in one game with Oakland this season during the 2019 Japan Opening Series, but was optioned to Triple-A after the club acquired Kendrys Morales before the third game of the season.
