The Texas Rangers today announced that left-handed pitcher Cole Hamels has been activated from the 10-day disabled list and will start Monday night's game in Cleveland.
To make room for Hamels, INF-OF Drew Robinson has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Hamels was placed on the DL on May 3, retroactive to April 30, after sustaining a right oblique strain while warming up for his start on May 2 at Houston. He was 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA (1 ER/8.2 IP) in a pair of rehab starts with Double-A Frisco, June 16 vs. San Antonio (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R-ER, 0 BB, 3 SO, 35 pitches) and June 21 vs. Midland (5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R-ER, 2 BB, 5 SO, 1 HR, 81 pitches).
Hamels is 2-0, 3.03 in five starts with Texas this season. He last started on April 26 against Minnesota, defeating the Twins, 14-3 (6.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R-ER, 3 BB, 1 SO, 1 HR, 99 pitches).
Robinson is 2-for-6 with a homer and one RBI in two games over three stints with the Rangers this season. He had his first two Major League hits, a home run and double, in a start at second base on Sunday at Yankee Stadium.
GALLO UPDATE: Infielder Joey Gallo had his sore left hamstring examined by Rangers' Assistant Team Physician Dr. Shane Seroyer on Sunday in Arlington. The exam determined no structural damage. Gallo received an injection and rejoined the club today. He is the lineup for tonight's game in Cleveland.
