Texas Rangers Youth Academy to host first signing day event

November 7th, 2019

The Texas Rangers today announced plans to host the organization’s first signing day event for an athlete from the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, Presented by Toyota.

Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun is slated to be in attendance for Academy Signing Day festivities, which will be held Saturday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. in the classrooms upstairs in the Globe Life Training Center.

Academy baseball player Joshua Marcellus will participate in Saturday’s signing. The Sachse High School senior was invited to MLB’s Breakthrough Series event at the MLB Compton Youth Academy in June; played in the Academy’s summer travel team (“TEAMMLB”) for the past two seasons; traveled to Cleveland, Ohio, with the Rangers Academy’s team in the All-Star Commissioner’s Cup Tournament in July; and earned spots on the 2018 and 2019 Rangers Youth Academy RBI All-Star team competing in the RBI Southwest Regionals in Austin.

Saturday is the “Youth Academy Signing Day” across the MLB Youth Academy Network, featuring high school seniors from several MLB Youth Academies who plan to sign their National Letter of Intent to play collegiate baseball and softball during the early signing period.

Additional details on Marcellus and Academy Signing Day will be included in Friday’s weekly edition of the Texas Rangers Youth Academy Notebook.
