Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed infielder Marwin Gonzalez on the 10-day Injured List with a right hamstring strain. Gonzalez played in 63 games for the Twins, hitting .255 (59-for-231) with 11 doubles, nine home runs, 26 RBI, 20 walks, 28 runs scored and a .743 OPS.

The Twins have also announced that they have placed right-handed pitcher Blake Parker on the Family Medical Emergency List. Parker appeared in 27 games for the Twins, going 0-2 with a 4.26 ERA (25.1 IP, 12 ER), 10 walks and 20 strikeouts, while converting nine of 10 save opportunities.

To replace Gonzalez and Parker on the 25-man roster, the Twins have recalled catcher/infielder Willians Astudillo, selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Sean Poppen from Triple-A Rochester and transferred left-handed pitcher Adalberto Mejía to the 60-day Injured List.

Astudillo, who played 33 games with the Twins earlier this season, recently played in nine games with the Red Wings, hitting .526 (20-for-38) with three home runs, 11 RBI, 10 runs scored and a 1.288 OPS. Poppen, who was selected by the Twins in the 19th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, appeared in five games (4 starts) for the Red Wings after being promoted from Double-A Pensacola, going 4-0 with a 1.55 ERA (29.0 IP, 5 ER), 12 walks and 34 strikeouts.

Both Astudillo and Poppen are scheduled to be available for tonight’s game vs. the Boston Red Sox. Poppen will wear uniform number 71 and is looking to make his major league debut.
