Twins recall Smeltzer, Cave from Triple-A Rochester

Stewart optioned to Rochester; Wade Jr. placed on injured list

July 7th, 2019

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer and outfielder Jake Cave from Triple-A Rochester. Smeltzer has made two starts for the Twins this season, posting a 3.65 ERA (12.1 IP, 5 ER) with three walks and nine strikeouts. Cave is 13-for-74 over his first two stints with the Twins, but has batted .353 (12-for-34) with five runs and seven RBI for the Red Wings since being optioned on June 29.

To make room on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Kohl Stewart to Rochester. Stewart was recalled for the fourth time in 2019 on Friday, and he pitched later that night for the Twins, retiring all four batters he faced.

The Twins also placed outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. on the 10-day Injured List with a right thumb dislocation. Wade was recalled yesterday and made the start in leftfield, but dislocated his thumb when he collided with the centerfield wall in the sixth inning.
