Twins select contract of Austin Adams

Hildenberger optioned to Triple-A, Reed designated for release or assignment

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN -- The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Austin Adams from Triple-A Rochester. Adams, 32, appeared in 11 games (1 start) for the Red Wings, going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA (18.0 IP, 9 ER), one save, six walks, 28 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .229. The Montgomery, Alabama native was originally drafted by Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2009 Draft and was signed by the Twins as a minor league free agent in August of 2018. He appeared in 53 games for the Indians from 2014-16, going 2-0 with one save, a 6.29 ERA (58.2 IP, 41 ER), 21 walks and 44 strikeouts.

To make room on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitcher Trevor Hildenberger to Triple-A Rochester. In 19 games this season, Hildenberger allowed 13 runs on 24 hits in 14.0 innings pitched (8.36 ERA).

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Addison Reed for release or assignment. Reed, who has been on rehab assignment with Rochester this season with a left thumb sprain, appeared in five games (1 start) for the Red Wings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts.

Adams will be in uniform for tonight’s game in Seattle and wear uniform number 31.
