White Sox Announce Minor League Players of the Month

Class A Kannapolis outfielder Micker Adolfo and Class AA Birmingham right-hander Michael Kopech have been named the Chicago White Sox Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for May as voted by a panel of Chicago-area media members.

Class A Kannapolis outfielder Micker Adolfo and Class AA Birmingham right-hander Michael Kopech have been named the Chicago White Sox Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for May as voted by a panel of Chicago-area media members.
 
Adolfo, 20, batted .333 (32-96) with 11 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 17 RBI and 14 runs over 24 games in May. He compiled a 16-game hitting streak from April 27-May 20 (.363, 24-66) and recorded five RBI on May 2 vs. Augusta.
 
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Adolfo is hitting .295 (46-156) with 15 doubles, two homers, 21 RBI and 21 runs scored over 40 games this season, his fourth in the White Sox organization after signing as an international free agent on July 2, 2013. He is tied for fourth in the South Atlantic League in doubles.
 
Kopech, 21, went 3-1 with a 2.31 ERA (9 ER/35.0 IP), 47 strikeouts and a .167 (20-120) opponents average over six starts in May. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Kopech allowed three runs or less in each of his six starts and struck out at least eight batters four times, including a season-high tying 10 in his last outing on May 31 vs. Chattanooga.
 
Kopech has gone 4-2 with a 2.38 ERA (14 ER/53.0 IP), 75 strikeouts and a .159 (29-182) opponents average over 10 starts this season, his first in the Sox organization. He leads the Southern League in strikeouts and strikeouts per 9.0 IP (12.7) and ranks sixth in ERA.
 
Kopech, the No. 2 prospect in the Sox organization and No. 12 overall in baseball according to MLB.com, was acquired from Boston on December 6, 2016 with outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe, right-hander Victor Diaz and infielder Yoan Moncada. He originally was selected by the Red Sox in the first round (33rd overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.
