The Chicago White Sox have returned right-handed pitcher Dylan Covey from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 10-day disabled list. Covey takes the roster spot of right-hander Tyler Clippard, who was traded to Houston on Sunday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Covey, who turned 26 yesterday, was placed on the disabled list on May 26 with a strained left oblique suffered during his last start on May 23 at Arizona. He made three starts with the Arizona League White Sox and two relief appearances with Charlotte on his rehab assignment.
Covey is 0-4 with a 8.12 ERA (34 ER/37.2 IP) over eight starts this season, his first in the major leagues. He was selected by the White Sox in the Rule 5 Draft on December 8, 2016.
