Yoan Moncada named International League Batter of the Week

Class AAA Charlotte second baseman Yoan Moncada has been named International League Batter of the Week for the period of May 1-7.
Moncada, 21, batted .500 (11-22) with two home runs, four RBI, eight runs scored and a .818 slugging percentage in six games last week. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Moncada is hitting .352 (38-108) with six homers, 11 RBI, 24 runs scored, seven stolen bases, a .427 on-base and .565 slugging percentage over 27 games this season.
Moncada, the No. 1 prospect in baseball according to MLB.com, leads the IL in runs scored and ranks among the leaders in hits (2nd), average (3rd), stolen bases (T3rd), OPS (4th, .992), home runs (T4th), on-base percentage (5th) and slugging percentage (5th). He compiled an 11-game hitting streak from April 22-May 5.
Moncada was acquired from Boston on December 6, 2016 with outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe and right-handers Victor Diaz and Michael Kopech in exchange for lefty Chris Sale.
The Knights are the first IL team with multiple Batter of the Week award recipients this season, with Moncada joining outfielder Willy García (April 6-9), who currently is with the White Sox.
