Breaking Barriers Essay Contest

Due to the Covid-19 global pandemic, Major League Baseball including the Texas Rangers will be celebrating Jackie Robinson Day virtually and in the safety of our homes.

While we will not celebrate in park, we still celebrate and honor the legacy of Jackie Robinson and his impact on the game of baseball, but more so the impact he had on our country. The virtues that Jackie Robinson embraced - courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence – drove him to be a champion on and off the field.

As students across our region participate in school at home, we want to hear from parents/legal guardians, who submit an original essay (500-10000 words) written by their Child (as defined in the official rules) about how Jackie Robinson’s legacy has impacted their daily life during the pandemic. Your Child’s essay should share how they have embraced the virtues of Jackie Robinson to help navigate them through the current crisis. Three prizes will be awarded (i.e., one (1) prize for winner with a Child age five (5) through nine (9), one (1) prize for winner with a Child age ten (10) through fourteen (14), and one (1) prize for winner with a Child age fifteen (15) through seventeen (17)). Each winner will receive: four tickets for winner, his/her Child and two (2) guests for one (1) 2020 Texas Rangers Sunday through Thursday regular season home non-premier game, subject to availability and blackout dates, an autographed baseball, and a $100 Visa Gift Card, subject to the terms and conditions of issuer associated with its use.

Enter by 4:59 p.m. CT on April 24, 2020. Winners will be notified on or about Monday, May 4, 2020. Submissions will be judged by a committee of Rangers and Rangers Foundation employees. See Official Rules
