SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Rangers have signed veteran outfielder Ben Revere to a Triple-A contract with an invitation to Spring Training. The deal, which was pending a physical, was completed on Monday.
Revere was signed because the Rangers are short of outfielders at Triple-A Round Rock. Scott Heineman is expected to start the season on the disabled list while recovering from offseason surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder. Revere is not expected to be a candidate to make the Major League roster.
Revere has played eight seasons in the Major Leagues and has been known for his speed. He was with the Angels in 2017, hitting .275 with 21 stolen bases across 109 games. He was released by the Reds out of Spring Training last year and re-signed with the Halos, playing in 40 games at Triple-A Salt Lake City before being released on July 26.
Revere, 30, has 211 career stolen bases, which places him at 15th among active players. The left-handed-hitting outfielder has a career .284 batting average with a .319 on-base percentage and a .343 slugging percentage.
