Hamilton cuts down on chasing bad pitches

NEW YORK -- Manager Ron Washington said he has figured out why Josh Hamilton is heating up at the plate again.

"He's not chasing balls a mile out of the zone," Washington said. "He's only chasing a half-mile out of the zone."

Hamilton went into Monday's game 9-for-18 with three home runs and nine RBIs in his last five games. He has also driven in 15 runs over a 10-game hitting streak. Prior that, Hamilton hit .197 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs in a 48-game stretch.

"I am confident he's out of his bad stretch," Washington said. "I don't think he needs to refine anything. Josh is doing fine. Leave him alone. What he's doing is driving in runs. If he wants to chase a couple balls out of the zone, that's fine. But I don't think he'll be chasing like before."
