Arlington, Texas - Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish today announced that he is making a $25,000 donation to help support City of Dallas RBI, which allows nearly 2,000 youngsters to participate in organized youth baseball programs.

The donation by Darvish represents the commitment he made to the Rangers and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to give back to the community at the time he signed with the Rangers prior to the 2012 season.

"I am happy to help a great cause and I hope that someday major leaguers will come out of the program," said Darvish.

The City of Dallas and the Dallas Independent School District partner with the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and Major League Baseball to provide Jr. RBI and RBI baseball to nearly 2,000 children across Dallas. The participants range from ages 6 to 18, participating in practices and playing games for their schools or recreation centers. The program is designed to give children the opportunity to play baseball in areas of the City of Dallas where organized baseball had not been previously.

The Rangers Foundation as well as Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre also gives financial support to the RBI program, assisting to provide the resources necessary to purchase jerseys, hats, and equipment for the teams as well as helping to pay for the umpire fees.

The Rangers Foundation's partnership with RBI began in 2008 and continues to grow each year. On Sunday, June 16 all RBI participants from Dallas, Arlington, Fort Worth, Lancaster, and Austin will be guests of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and the Rangers players for a special RBI Day at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The participants will walk around the field in a pre-game parade and will receive complimentary tickets to that day's game with the Toronto Blue Jays.
