Rangers lose ninth-inning challenge

Replay confirms Angels' Calhoun hit by Cotts' pitch

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers lost a challenge in the ninth inning of Friday night's 5-4 loss to the Angels, but did establish a new record as far as replay reviews.

The play occurred with two out in the ninth when Neal Cotts clipped Kole Calhoun on the right arm with a 2-2 fastball. After Calhoun went to first, Rangers manager Ron Washington challenged the call that the pitch hit the batter.

The call was confirmed in just 30 seconds. That was the quickest decision in 29 challenges by the Rangers this season.

The play was almost huge with the Angels holding a 5-4 lead. Cotts then walked Mike Trout. Neftali Feliz was summoned from the bullpen and walked Albert Pujols to load the bases. But Feliz struck out Josh Hamilton to end the threat.
