Jackson clears waivers; Palumbo assigned to Down East

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have reinstated catcher from the disabled list and assigned him outright to Triple-A Round Rock.
Perez had been on the disabled list since June 16 with a right ankle sprain. The move means Texas is staying with as its backup catcher behind .
The Rangers also announced that outfielder has cleared release waivers and become a free agent. He was acquired on July 8 in a trade with the Giants as the Rangers agreed to assume his contract while acquiring reliever and Minor League pitcher Jason Bahr.

In addition, Texas has taken pitcher off the 60-day disabled list and assigned him to Class A Advanced Down East. He has been sidelined for 15 months while recovering from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery.
Palumbo replaces left-hander , who has been promoted to Double-A Frisco. Mendez was 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA in five starts at Down East after being optioned there from the big leagues on June 19.
