ARLINGTON -- Rangers right-hander Doug Fister was transferred to the 60-day DL in one of three roster moves the team announced Sunday morning.
Fister was placed on the 10-day DL on June 10 with a right knee strain. He is eligible to return on Aug. 8. A team spokesman said surgery is not necessary.
Fister is 1-7 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 starts.
Earlier in the morning, the team purchased the contract of right-hander Yovani Gallardo from Triple-A Round Rock. Gallardo made his first start of the season on Sunday.
To make room for Gallardo, Texas optioned lefty Brandon Mann to Round Rock. Mann, who made his Major League debut in May, was recalled from Round Rock on Friday. He has no record and a 1.50 ERA in two stints with the club, covering four relief appearances and six innings.
Andrus still on target
Shortstop Elvis Andrus remains set to rejoin the club in Kansas City as early as Monday for the first of a three-game series. Andrus has missed more than two months with a broken right elbow suffered after being hit by a pitch from Angels closer Keynan Middleton on April 11.
Andrus has played in seven games in a Minor League rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco. His numbers have been modest while he regains rhythm. He cleared a hurdle on Friday by playing the second of back-to-back nine-inning games on the field.
"He still feels good," manager Jeff Banister said. "His words: Legs are feeling good, rhythm and timing are OK. He hit a couple of balls hard last night. Had some hard outs."
Andrus went 0-for-2 with two walks as Round Rock's designated hitter on Sunday.
"I would think that if everything goes well we'll see him in Kansas City," Banister said.
Profar impresses
With Andrus' return, Jurickson Profar will resume his role as utility infielder. Profar got the first extended playing time of his Major League career with Andrus on the DL.
The 25-year-old, once the brightest hand in the farm system before shoulder injuries derailed his expectations, impressed his manager, despite a .239 average.
The switch-hitting Profar has had good at-bats and has shown some pop in his bat. He entered play Sunday with seven home runs and 37 RBIs.
Banister said Profar will continue to see plenty of time.
"I think if we go back and look at hard outs, he's probably one of our guys at the top of our list," Banister said. "The average, I think with continued playing time, will increase.
"The right-handed swing has gotten much better. He understands the situations [at the plate]. Defensively, the arm has gotten better, the range has steadily increased."
Mazara, Chirinos return
Nomar Mazara and catcher Robinson Chirinos were back in the Rangers' lineup on Sunday.
Mazara, back in right field and in the No. 3 hole, missed two straight games with a sore left wrist, which had been bothering him for a couple of weeks, but flared on Friday.
Since a very good month of May, Mazara has struggled in June, hitting .158 with a home run, five RBIs and a .316 slugging percentage in 10 games.
Though he was back on Sunday, Banister continued to call Mazara's availability as day to day.
"I don't think it's completely gone away. I think there's still a little bit in there," Banister said of the soreness. "I think we'll have to manage it."
Chirinos was back after feeling banged up from the home-plate collision he was involved in with the Dodgers' Matt Kemp. However, he left the game after being hit by a pitch in the seventh inning Sunday.
