Harris signs Minor League deal

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have signed veteran utility infielder Brendan Harris to a Minor League contract and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock. He is not on the 40-man roster, but he does give the organization some infield depth if needed in September.

Harris is similar to Adam Rosales, a light-hitting infielder who can play every spot plus left field if needed. He hit .206 with four home runs and nine RBIs in 44 games for the Angels this season before being designated for assignment on July 20.

He refused outright assignment and became a free agent on July 23. The Yankees signed him to a Minor League contract and he played 22 games at Triple-A Scranton before being released from his contract on Wednesday. The Rangers are the 12th organization he has played for since 2003.
