The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has been officially notified that free agent outfielder Ian Desmond has declined the team's qualifying 2017 contract offer.
Desmond had until today at 4:00 p.m. CST to accept or decline the offer. The Rangers may still negotiate with Desmond, but Texas will gain an additional selection after the first round in the 2017 First Year Player Draft if he should sign with another team.
