GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Yan Gomes homered in the second inning and Mike Napoli hit an RBI single in the third, and that was all the Indians needed in a 4-2 win over the Texas Rangers at Goodyear Ballpark on Monday afternoon.
Indians starter Corey Kluber pitched his way out of a few jams and kept his scoreless spring alive. The 2014 American League Cy Young Award winner went four innings and gave up four hits and a walk and threw one wild pitch, but he's put up zeroes in the runs column through nine Cactus League innings.

"I was fighting my mechanics," Kluber said. "Sometimes you have to fight through it. I was trying to get out and get a competitive feel. It was a chance to compete and see if I could find a way to get out of it.
"You need to get ready for Opening Day. You need that. You need to work through the situations and get ready for the season. You can't just flip the switch and have everything in place."
Meanwhile, Rangers starter A.J. Griffin was making his third appearance and first start of the spring after missing the greater part of two years while recovering from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery and a shoulder injury. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk in 2 2/3 innings.
"The progress I have been making this spring has been pretty good," Griffin said. "I am building up arm strength and getting my pitch count up. Every day it feels better. I feel like it was pretty good today. I feel like myself again."

Rangers reliever Jimmy Reyes left the game with a bruised left elbow in the fourth inning after he was struck by a Jose Ramirez line drive. Cesar Ramos walked in the Indians' third run in the bottom of the sixth, and a Ramirez sacrifice fly RBI made it 4-0. The Rangers got on the board in the top of the seventh on a Ronald Guzman RBI double. Guzman also scored center fielder Collin Cowgill on a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Indians up next: Right-hander Carlos Carrasco is scheduled to make his third start of the spring on Tuesday against the Rangers at Surprise Stadium at 4:05 p.m. ET. Carrasco has pitched five scoreless innings, scattering two hits and striking out five while not walking a batter over his first two outings. He is slated to be followed on the mound by left-hander Tom Gorzelanny, righties Joba Chamberlain and Austin Adams and lefty Ross Detwiler.
Rangers up next: Left-hander Martin Perez starts for the Rangers against the Indians at 3:05 p.m. CT Tuesday in Surprise. Perez has been doing his work in camp games and this will be his first Cactus League start. Nick Martinez will follow Perez. Cole Hamels is scheduled to pitch in a Minor League game.
