Lewis makes solid rehab start at Double-A

ARLINGTON -- Colby Lewis is getting closer to being an option at the Major League level. He threw 71 pitches in his medical rehabilitation start for Double-A Frisco on Sunday and made it through five innings. He allowed three runs on four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five.

"I feel like velocity was back up and I was definitely locating my fastball better," Lewis said. "Slider was sharp. My misses were definitely fewer. [Pitching coach Mike] Maddux pointed out something that I was doing wrong in my mechanics.

"It was definitely on the fastball, and was able to stay behind it and keep it more true than to the side of it and it cutting on me. I definitely made that adjustment, now it's just time to keep going out there and running out pitches and keep getting reps in."

Lewis is scheduled to pitch for Frisco again on Friday. If that goes well, the Rangers could look at bringing him back to the Major Leagues. He has been sidelined since undergoing surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow on July 27, 2012.

"I think we're about to have one more at 90 pitches and probably be good," Lewis said. "It'd just be up to them after that."

Matt Harrison, who is coming back from back surgery, is also getting ready to pitch in a game again. Harrison is scheduled to pitch two innings for Frisco on Wednesday in Midland, Texas. Harrison was cleared for game action after throwing two live batting practice sessions with no problems last week.

"After the way the live batting practice went the other day, I think I'm ready to go," Harrison said. "I bounced back good."
