Gardewine signed by Texas in seventh round

The Rangers took right-hander Nick Gardewine with the 220th overall selection in the seventh round.

Gardewine, who attended Kaskaskia Community College in Illinois, went 9-1 with a 2.12 ERA in 13 starts this season. He allowed 70 hits, but just three home runs and one double. He had 84 strikeouts and 24 walks in 85 innings.

Gardewine had four complete games (three of them shutouts), including a seven-inning no-hitter in his third collegiate start.
