Seven players from the Texas Rangers will participate for the Surprise Saguaros in the 2021 Arizona Fall League, Major League Baseball announced today.

Right-handed pitchers Tim Brennan, Eudrys Manon, Spencer Mraz, and Owen White, and infielders Ezequiel Duran, Justin Foscue, and Sam Huff will play for the Saguaros when AFL play begins on Wednesday, October 13. In addition, Arizona Rangers hitting coach Ryan Tuntland will serve in that role for the Saguaros.

Brennan went 0-3 with a 3.46 ERA (10 ER/26.0 IP) in 8 games/7 starts for Frisco (AA) and the Arizona Complex Rangers (Rookie) in 2021. The right-hander spent the majority of the campaign on Frisco’s Injured List after suffering a broken right arm when he was hit by a line drive on May 15 vs. Corpus Christi. Brennan underwent surgery on May 19 and returned to game action in August. Selected by Texas in the 7th round of the 2018 June draft, Brennan has gone 11-9 with a 3.77 ERA in 29 games/28 starts over 2 minor league seasons, averaging just 0.4 home runs and 1.4 walks per 9 innings.

The 23-year-old Manon combined for a 4-0 record with a 2.89 ERA (9 ER/28.0 IP), 6 saves, and 1.107 WHIP figure over 20 relief appearances for Down East (A) and the Arizona Complex League Rangers (Rookie) in 2021, averaging 13.5 strikeouts per 9 innings while allowing just one home run all season. The 23-year-old native of the Dominican Republic held opponents to a .141/.296/.228/.524 slash line this year with just 5 extra-base hits. Manon did not make his season debut until July, and he finished the year with 17.0 scoreless innings over his final 12 appearances spanning the regular season and postseason, recording 6 walks with 34 strikeouts in that span.

Mraz combined to go 4-4 with 7 saves and a 5.23 ERA (24 ER/41.1 IP) over 30 games/one start for Hickory (High-A) and Down East (A) this season, averaging 12.4 strikeouts per 9 innings and 0.9 home runs allowed per 9. The 23-year-old right-hander recorded 7 saves with 25 games finished. He allowed 9 runs/8 earned runs over his last 5 games/7.0 innings pitched with Hickory after an early August promotion, raising his final ERA this season from 4.19 to 5.23. The 6-foot-9, 250-pound Cleveland-area native was selected in the 33rd round of the 2019 June draft out of Miami University of Ohio.

White produced a 4-1 record, 3.06 ERA (12 ER/35.1 IP) and 14.3 strikeouts per 9.0 innings figure in 9 games/8 starts with Down East (Low-A) and the Arizona Complex League Rangers (Rookie), his first professional season. The 22-year-old had been sidelined for each of the last 3 campaigns after being selected by Texas in the 2nd round of the 2018 MLB Draft, and endured a stint on the 7-day Injured List this season (May 8-Aug. 9) after suffering a fractured bone in his hand. Baseball America ranked White as the no. 21 prospect in the Rangers farm system on their mid-season top 30 list.

Duran combined to bat .267/.342/.486/.827 (111-416) with career highs in both 19 home runs and 79 RBI across 105 games between Hudson Valley (NYY High-A) and Hickory (TEX High-A) in 2021. The 22-year-old was a mid-season acquisition by the Rangers as part of a 6-player trade on July 29 that sent OF Joey Gallo and LHP Joely Rodríguez to the New York Yankees. A native of the Dominican Republic, Duran was rated by Baseball America as the 5th-best prospect in the Texas organization according to the publication’s All-Star break rankings of the club’s top prospects.

In his first professional season, Foscue paired a .275/.371/.590/.960 (63-229) slash line with 17 home runs and 51 RBI for Frisco (AA), Hickory (High-A) and the Arizona Complex League Rangers (Rookie). The 22-year-old ranked among TEX organization leaders (min. 200 AB) in OPS (3rd), slugging pct. (3rd) and home runs (T7th), and had a run that saw him homer in 8 consecutive games (9 total HR) from July 9-23. A first-round draft selection by Texas in 2020 (14th overall), Foscue is currently ranked as the 83rd-best prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline.

Huff posted a .246/.317/.496/.813 slash line with 16 home runs and 36 RBI in 61 games with Round Rock (AAA), Frisco (AA), and the Arizona Complex Rangers (Rookie) in 2021. He was on the Rangers' Injured List from March 29-July 16, first with a left hamstring strain and later with a right knee injury. The Phoenix, Arizona native was limited to first base and designated hitter duties in 2021, as he underwent surgery to remove a loose body of cartilage in his right knee on April 28. Huff, who made his Major League debut with the Rangers in 2020, currently checks in at no. 91 on MLB Pipeline’s list of top 100 prospects. Huff is not expected to catch in Arizona Fall League games.
