Texas Rangers announce 2021 team award recipients

Adolis García becomes first player in club history to win both Player and Rookie of the Year Awards in same season

Arlington, Texas -- The Texas Rangers today announced the recipients of the club’s 2021 team awards as selected by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Outfielder Adolis García was selected as both the Rangers’ Player and Rookie of the Year, the first time in club history a player has won both awards in the same season. García batted .243 with 31 home runs and 90 RBI in 149 games, leading the club and setting Rangers’ rookie records for both homers and RBI. García also topped the team in runs (77), doubles (26), extra base hits (59), total bases (264), and slugging (.454) while tying for the Major League lead with 16 outfield assists.

Dane Dunning was selected as the Rangers Pitcher of the Year, the first rookie to ever win that award. The right-hander was 5-10 with a 4.51 ERA in 27 games/25 starts in his first season in the organization. Despite being on an innings limit, Dunning ranked second on the staff in starts and strikeouts (114) and had the seventh lowest ERA among A.L. rookies (minimum 100.0 IP).

The Harold McKinney Good Guy Award goes to catcher Jose Trevino, who batted .239 with five homers and 30 RBI in 89 games in 2021. Trevino started a team-high 81 games behind the plate and was selected as the 2021 Texas Rangers nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award.

The Richard Durrett Hardest Working Man Award, which is presented annually to a player who demonstrates significant improvement over the previous season or seasons through hard work, was awarded to pitcher Taylor Hearn. The left-hander was 6-6 with a 4.66 ERA in 42 games/11 starts,
