Rangers add INF's Luis Sardinas and Rougned Odor, along with RHP Justin Germano, to active roster; INF Donnie Murphy placed on disabled list

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon the following six roster moves:

• Infielder Luis Sardinas (#3) recalled from Frisco (AA)
• Infielder Rougned Odor (#73) contract purchased from Frisco (AA)
• Right-handed pitcher Justin Germano (#67) contract purchased from Round Rock (AAA)
• Infielder Donnie Murphy placed on 15-day disabled list with neck strain
• Infielder Josh Wilson designated for assignment
• Right-handed pitcher Scott Baker designated for assignment

Sardinas, who turns 21 on May 16, will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season. The switch-hitting infielder was also with the club from April 19-26, going 1-for-3 with a run scored over 3 games in his first major league action. He is still seeking his first big league start. Since returning to Frisco on April 28, Sardinas has batted .294 (10-34) with 3 doubles, a triple, and 4 RBI in 8 games. Overall, he has hit safely in 17 of 21 games with the RoughRiders at .253 (22-87).

Odor (pronounced ROOG-ned oh-DORE), 20, will be in uniform tonight seeking to make his major league debut. He has hit safely in each of his last 9 games with Frisco at .421 (16-38) with a double, triple, 3 home runs, 10 RBI, 2 walks, and 8 runs. Overall, the left-handed batter has hit .279 (36-129) with 6 home runs and 17 RBI over 32 games as the primary second baseman for the RoughRiders. Odor was a non-roster invitee in spring training and batted .238 (5-21) in 12 Cactus League games. The Venezuela native was chosen as the Rangers Tom Grieve Minor League Player of the Year in 2013 after combining to bat .305 (156-511) between High-A Myrtle Beach and Frisco. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Venezuela on January 3, 2011, by scouts Rafic Saab and Mike Daly.

At 20 years and 94 days of age, Odor would be the youngest player to appear in a major league game this season after opening the campaign as the youngest player in the Texas League. Entering today, Sardinas has been the youngest player to appear this year at 20 years and 339 days.

Germano (pronounced jer-MAH-noh), 31, last pitched in a start on Sunday vs. New Orleans (6.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R-ER, 2 BB, 2 SO, 2 HR, 99 pitches/64 strikes). He has gone 1-3 with a 3.41 ERA (14 ER/37.0 IP) in 6 games/starts at Triple-A, including one complete game. He had no record and a 4.76 ERA (3 ER/5.2 IP) over 3 relief appearances in 'A' games this spring in Rangers camp as a non-roster invitee. The veteran has appeared in the major leagues in 4 straight seasons, and has also pitched in Japan and Korea. Has pitched almost exclusively as a starter throughout his minor league career, but has split between starting and relief roles in the majors. Germano has a career 10-30 record with a 5.29 ERA over 94 games/48 starts in the major leagues with San Diego (2004, 2007-08), Cincinnati (2006), Cleveland (2010-11), Boston (2012), Chicago-NL (2012), and Toronto (2013).

Murphy left last night's game after 6 innings due to the neck injury, suffered when he tripped at first base trying to beat out a ground ball. A member of the Opening Day roster, Murphy has batted .211 with one home run and 7 RBI in 26 games for Texas this season. The first date he would be eligible to return is May 23.

The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release, or outright both Wilson and Baker to the minor leagues. The club's Opening Day second baseman, Wilson hit .224 with no HR and 8 RBI in 24 games for Texas. Baker had his contract purchased from Round Rock prior to last night's game and finished the loss in relief (5.1 IP, 2 R-ER) in his Rangers debut.

After today's moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
