Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers will begin the countdown of remaining scheduled regular season games at Globe Life Park in Arlington, TONIGHT, Monday, August 13, when the club opens a six-game homestand with the Arizona Diamondbacks at 7:05 p.m.
At the end of the fifth inning of tonight, Rangers Hall of Fame outfielder Rusty Greer will take part in a ceremony to unveil a sign on the left field upper suite level façade to indicate that 100 scheduled regular season games remain at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
The sign will be updated after the fifth inning of each remaining game at Globe Life Park in 2018 and 2019. Rangers' alumni, longtime season holders and employees, and other individuals associated with the history of Globe Life Park will take part in the sign unveilings.
Globe Life Park in Arlington opened as The Ballpark in Arlington in April 1994 and has been the site of 25 postseason games, including six World Series contests, and the 1995 All-Star Game. Entering tonight, the Rangers have played 1980 regular season games at Globe Life Park.
The official groundbreaking for Globe Life Field took place on September 28, 2017 with construction beginning the following week. The new 1.7 million square foot ballpark, which will be located on 13 acres just south of the current Globe Life Park in Arlington, will include a retractable roof for climate control and shelter for fans during the hot summer months. Seating capacity is approximately 40,000 for Globe Life Field, which will open in March 2020.
