Rangers recall Mendez, designate Detwiler

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers recalled right-handed pitcher Roman Mendez from Triple-A Round Rock and designated left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler for assignment on Saturday.

In 12 games for the Rangers earlier this season, Mendez recorded a 5.40 ERA, and he had a 2.57 ERA in 13 games at Round Rock. He joins Spencer Patton to give Texas two middle relievers.

Detwiler was acquired from the Nationals to be in the Rangers' rotation, but he went 0-5 with a 6.95 ERA in seven starts. The 29-year-old went on the disabled list from May 15 to June 4 with left shoulder inflammation and then returned to the bullpen. He had a 7.71 ERA as a reliever.
