NEW YORK -- Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman wasn't expecting to hit three home runs in a game, but he badly wanted to hit at least one on Friday night.
He wanted to hit one for his father, Manuel Guzman, who was one of 30 or so people who flew from the Dominican Republic to watch the 23-year-old rookie play. Many of the others had seen Guzman play in Arlington, but this was the first time for Manuel, who doesn't like to fly. He may reconsider that after the special night his son put on for him at Yankee Stadium.
Guzman put on a show for his father, mother Margarita, brothers Edward and Randy, and the rest as he hit three home runs to carry the Rangers to a 12-7 victory over the Yankees in the Bronx.
"I don't know … I don't know how to put the words together," Guzman said. "I mean coming in today, I wanted to hit at least one for them. I was more nervous than my first day in the big leagues. I got the first one out of the way, it was an amazing feeling … pointing at them, seeing them so happy and jumping around. There is no better feeling than that."
His father had the same feeling.
"For a father, for the first time to visit, it's very emotional for him to hit three home runs," Manuel Guzman said. "It's a great gift for seeing my son play coming straight from the Dominican Republic."

Guzman said it was on his mind in batting practice.
"I was ready today, first pitch I see I want to hammer it," Guzman said.
Adrian Beltre had the Rangers' first home run. His two-run shot in the fourth off Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Guzman went deep into the right-field seats for his 10th home run of the season and first since a grand slam against the Orioles on July 15.

The Guzman Show was just getting started.
Elvis Andrus' two-run double in the fifth made it 5-0, and then Guzman sparked a four-run rally in the sixth with a leadoff homer. This one had an exit velocity of 108.6 mph and a projected distance of 433 feet, according to Statcast™, as it landed in the section above the Yankees' bullpen in right-center.
Guzman hit his third home run in the seventh, this one going opposite field, down the left-field line and just making it into the seats. No matter, Guzman is the first Rangers player to hit three home runs in a game since Beltre did so against the Orioles on Aug. 22, 2012. He is the first Rangers player to hit three home runs against the Yankees in the Bronx. The only other Rangers player to hit three home runs in a game against the Yankees was Larry Parrish on April 29, 1985.

"It was a great night," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "What a wonderful night. Guzman was locked in. Second one was probably the best, but the ability to go the other way, three home runs. I know it will be one that he'll remember. What a great night for the entire team. Challenging game, back and forth in this ballpark, but fun night for Guzie."
It may have been even more rewarding coming against the Yankees. Guzman was a Red Sox fan growing up in the Dominican Republic -- Manny Ramirez was his favorite player -- and he has fond memories of watching with his maternal grandfather on television when Boston and New York would battle.
"I want to kill them every time I play them, to be honest," Guzman said. "I never liked the Yankees growing up, just the fact that every Dominican who is a Yankee fan, they are so loud and they talk so much. Now I know they hate me, but I'm happy about it."
Guzman has six home runs in four games against the Yankees this season. He hit three in three games in Arlington back on May 21-23 and did not play Thursday night. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Guzman is the first player to hit home runs in his first four career games against the Yankees. He is also the first Rangers player to hit a home run in four straight games at any point against them.

"Last night he said, 'I feel ready,'" Manuel Guzman said. "'I'm going to be strong in the game.' That was our conversation."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Beltre climbs all-time list: Beltre's home run in the fourth inning was the 469th of his career. That passes Hall of Famer Chipper Jones for 33rd place all-time. Beltre also had a two-run double in the eighth.

Boone gives Guzman a shot at 4: Guzman came up in the eighth with a runner on second, two outs and first base open. The Rangers had Carlos Tocci on deck, but Yankees manager Aaron Boone did not call for an intentional walk. Instead, he let reliever Chad Green go after Guzman, and he struck out to end the inning.

Guzman is 23 years and 294 days old. He is the second-youngest Rangers player to hit three home runs in a game. Juan Gonzalez was 22 years and 231 days old when he hit three against the Twins on June 7, 1992. He is the youngest player to hit three home runs in the Bronx since Mickey Mantle (23 years, 205 days) on May 13, 1955, against the Tigers. Guzman and Mantle share the same birthday of Oct. 20.

The Rangers took advantage of some sloppy defense in the sixth, when Rougned Odor came up with two outs, Drew Robinson at third and Shin-Soo Choo at second. Odor lined a single to right that scored Robinson with Choo stopping at third. Odor got caught in a rundown between first and second, but a throwing error by shortstop Didi Gregorius allowed him to advance safely as Choo scored. Odor scored on a single by Andrus.

MITEL REPLAY OF THE DAY
Robinson led off the fifth with a walk and then tried to steal second. He was called out by second-base umpire Lance Barksdale, but the Rangers challenged the call. After review, it was overturned and Robinson was safe. He ended up scoring on Andrus' double.

UP NEXT
Right-hander Andrew Hutchison will make his second start for the Rangers on Saturday (12:05 p.m. CT). He allowed six runs in three innings in a 9-6 loss to the Orioles on Sunday after being signed as a free agent. He had been pitching at Triple-A Oklahoma City in the Dodgers' organization, going 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA in seven starts and two relief appearances and was granted his release on July 31. He began the season with the Phillies and was 1-1 with a 4.64 ERA in 11 appearances before refusing an outright assignment to the Minor Leagues. He will be opposed by right-hander Lance Lynn.
