Arlington, TX - More athletes are taking the field every day at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex presented by Toyota.
In addition to the middle and high school practices and games for both softball and baseball and the Academy's own spring programming schedule, Mercy Street Little League practices are now underway. The first game is slated for Friday, March 23.
On Deck at the Academy
Pinkston softball hosts Carter at Josh "Hambone" Hamilton Field on Monday, March 19, at 6:00 p.m. The Vikings are coming off an 18-0 victory over Lincoln on March 9 that saw them improve to 3-0 in district play.
The Pinkston Vikings baseball team returns to Oates Field on Thursday, March 29.
With Pinkston baseball on the road, Sunset High School baseball and Edison Middle School softball, whose scheduling is also supported by the Academy, are featured in this week's lineup.
Pinkston High School baseball and softball teams practice and play all their home games at the Academy. Additionally, the facility supports scheduling for Sunset High School baseball games and Edison Middle School softball contests. Entrance is free to all games.
In Full Swing
During the first three weeks of spring programming, 345 athletes, ages 9 through 18, have worked on hitting, fielding, throwing, and defensive strategies with members of the Academy coaching staff.
The 10-week baseball and softball program lasts until May 10 and is held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There is no cost to participate in the spring programming, and registration is still available at https://texasrangersya.leagueapps.com.
Monday and Wednesday activities are held on the South Side of the complex, while Thursday is on the North Side. Programming occurs rain or shine, with all activities relocating to the indoor space in the event of weather issues.
Safety First
Toyota and Children's Health will host a Buckle Up For Life event on Saturday, March 24, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Academy parking lot. Predetermined families will have car seats installed during that time.
Buckle Up for Life is a course that educates parents, teens, and families about safe driving with an emphasis on proper car seat installation and harness safety for children. They provide car seats free of cost to the families, who participate in an hour-long education course prior to signing up for the installation of the car seat.
