Suspended Cruz to train in Dominican Republic

ARLINGTON -- Nelson Cruz will fly to the Dominican Republic on Wednesday and stay for 12 days to train at his home, and at the Rangers' facility in Boca Chica. Cruz, currently serving a 50-game suspension, has been in touch with the club's conditioning staff to discuss his program.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels reiterated the club has not made any decision on whether Cruz would be on the postseason roster. Right now, they just want to keep Cruz in the best baseball shape possible.

"First of all, we have to get there," Daniels said of the postseason. "We're not going to get ahead of ourselves. We've got to get there first to have the conversation. At that point, there's a lot of factors. What kind of shape is he in? How's the team playing? How's the team gelling? How are our other guys preforming?"

Cruz will likely only be able to simulate a game in the instructional league in Arizona if the Rangers would like him back for the postseason.
