Team to watch

The Rangers' two best pitching prospects, right-handers Cole Winn and Hans Crouse, are opening 2021 at Double-A Frisco. So are three of their best hitting prospects: corner infielders Davis Wendzel and Sherten Apostel and outfielder Steele Walker. Righties Yerry Rodriguez and A.J. Alexy possess considerable upside as well.

New faces

Left-hander Avery Weems, who came to Texas with Dane Dunning from the White Sox in a December deal for Lance Lynn, will begin the season at High-A Hickory. Right-hander Jose Corniell, part of the return from the Mariners for Rafael Montero in December, and outfielder Yeison Morrobel, the top prospect in the Rangers' 2020-21 international class, are in extended Spring Training and on course to make their pro debuts in the Rookie-level Arizona League in July.

Texas is without its two Top 100 Prospects, as third baseman Josh Jung (left foot) should be sidelined for another month before reporting to Triple-A Round Rock and catcher Sam Huff (right knee surgery) will miss two months. Right-hander Ricky Vanasco has one of the system's more electric arms but will miss this season after having Tommy John surgery last September.
