Darvish finishes third in BBWAA's AL Rookie voting
ARLINGTON -- Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish has finished third in the Jackie Robinson American League Rookie of the Year voting. As expected, Darvish lost out to Angels outfielder Mike Trout, who was a unanimous selection and also is a finalist for the AL Most Valuable Player Award.

Darvish was one of three finalists for the award, conducted by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, along with Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. Darvish was 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA in 29 starts while striking out 221 batters in 191 1/3 innings after coming over from Japan.
Opponents hit .220 against him, third lowest in the league. He is only one of two AL rookie pitchers to ever win at least 16 games and strike out at least 210 batters, joining Herb Score of the 1955 Indians.
Score was one of only 10 starting pitchers to win AL Rookie of the Year honors since 1949. That was the first year a Rookie of the Year was selected in both leagues. Jeremy Hellickson of the Rays won last year and Justin Verlander won for the Tigers in 2006. Prior to Verlander, the last AL Rookie of the Year who was a starting pitcher was Dave Righetti for the Yankees in 1981.
