Arlington, Texas —The Texas Rangers tonight announced that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Jake Odorizzi (pronounced oh-duh-RIZZ-ee) and cash considerations from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard.

Odorizzi, 32, combined to go 6-6 with a 4.40 ERA (52 ER/106.1 IP) over 22 games/starts with Houston and Atlanta in 2022.  The veteran starter began the year with Houston and was acquired by Atlanta in an August 2 trade for reliever Will Smith.  He also spent nearly two months on the Injured List from May 17-July 3 with left lower leg discomfort.  When he suffered the left leg injury while attempting to cover first base in a start on May 16 at Boston, Odorizzi had a 3-2 record with a 3.13 ERA over 7 starts to begin the year.  He made 10 starts with Atlanta to finish the year, and was on the Braves' Division Series roster for the club's series loss against the Phillies.

Odorizzi owns a lifetime 74-69 record and 3.99 ERA (555 ER/1253.1 IP) over 241 games/237 starts across 11 Major League seasons with Kansas City (2012), Tampa Bay (2013-17), Minnesota (2018-20), Houston (2021-22), and Atlanta (2022). He earned his first and only career All-Star selection in 2019 as a member of the Twins, going 15-7 with a 3.51 ERA (62 ER/159.0 IP) and career-high 178 strikeouts. Since 2014, his 231 starts are 5th-most in MLB among right-handers behind only Max Scherzer (256), Zack Greinke (255), Kyle Gibson (251), and Gerrit Cole (248).

The Illinois native was originally selected by Milwaukee in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2008 MLB Draft out of Highland (Ill.) High School.

Allard was originally acquired by the Rangers from Atlanta in a trade on July 30, 2019 involving reliever Chris Martin.  Allard went 1-2 with a 7.29 ERA over 10 relief appearances spanning six total stints with the Rangers in 2022.  He spent the balance of the year at Triple-A Round Rock, going 3-3 with a 4.65 ERA over 20 games/starts.

RANGERS PICK UP 2023 CLUB OPTION ON LECLERC: The Rangers also announced today that the club has picked up the 2023 club option on right-handed pitcher José Leclerc.  In 2022, Leclerc posted a 2.83 ERA over 39 relief appearances for the Rangers, this after just 2 MLB outings in 2020-21 due to injury.  Over his final 28 games this season beginning July 24, Leclerc had a 1.64 ERA (6 ER/33.0 IP) with a .487 opponent OPS figure, 14 walks, and 41 strikeouts.

On Tuesday, the team declined a 2023 club option on outfielder Kole Calhoun, making him a free agent.
