Veteran reliever spent 2020 season with Miami Marlins

February 4th, 2021

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Nick Vincent to a minor league contract for the 2021 season with an invitation to Major League Spring Training camp.

Vincent, 34, went 1-2 with 3 saves and a 4.43 ERA over 21 relief appearances for the Miami Marlins in 2020, spending the bulk of the abbreviated campaign on the Major League roster. After being in San Francisco Giants camp during the initial Spring Training, he signed with Miami prior to Summer Camp and had his contract selected from the Marlins’ Alternate Training Site on August 4. He produced a 2.18 ERA (5 ER/20.2 IP) over his first 19 appearances before allowing 6 runs in his final 2 outings. He was not on the Miami roster for the Wild Card round against the Cubs, but made one scoreless appearance for his postseason debut in the team's Division Series loss to Atlanta.

A nine-year MLB veteran, Vincent has a 22-23 career record with a 3.38 ERA over 405 games/2 starts in the Majors with San Diego (2012-15), Seattle (2016-18), San Francisco (2019), Philadelphia (2019), and Miami (2020). The San Diego-area native was originally selected by the Padres in the 18th round of the 2008 June draft out of Long Beach State.

With the addition of Vincent, the Rangers now have 65 players on the club’s Spring Training roster: a full 40-man roster along with 25 non-roster invitees.
