Texas Rangers roster moves for July 31

Bird and Herget added to 30-man roster; Jurado designated for assignment

San Francisco, CA – The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions:

--1B Greg Bird and RHP Jimmy Herget selected to 40-man Major League roster and 30-man active roster from the Alternate Training Site.

--RHP Ariel Jurado, who was on option to the Alternate Training Site, designated for assignment

These moves follow Thursday’s transactions of RHP Jose Leclerc being placed on the 45-day injured list with a tear of the teres major muscle in his right shoulder and 1B Ronald Guzman being optioned to the Alternate Training Site.

Bird was signed as a minor league free agent in February and has a career Major League average of .211 with 32 homers and 98 RBI in 186 games with the New York Yankees from 2015-19. Herget was received on a waiver claim from Cincinnati in December 2019 after appearing in five games in his big league debut with the Reds last season..

With today’s moves, the Rangers have the limit of 40 players on their Major League roster.

Per 2020 MLB regulations, the active roster must be reduced from 30 to 28 players by 11:00 a.m. CT on August 6, and the active roster must be reduce from 28 to 26 players by 11:00 a.m. CT on August 20.
