Webb OK after deflecting liner into chin

TORONTO -- Ryan Webb got a scare Tuesday night when pinch-hitter Jimmy Paredes drove a ball back through the middle at the Rays' right-hander in the eighth inning of the Rays' 12-2 win over the Blue Jays.
Webb got his glove up just in time to deflect the blow, but he still got dinged on the right side of his chin.
"He hit it right back at me," Webb said. "Anytime that's happened to me in my career I've been able to get a glove on it. It just barely grazed the glove and right into my chin. Squared me up pretty good, but it didn't get my head or anything like that."
Rays manager Kevin Cash and assistant athletic trainer Paul Harker rushed to the mound to talk to Webb, who convinced them he could go on.
"He said he was totally fine," Cash said. "I think Hark asked him how he was doing and he said, 'I feel like getting this guy out.' I said, 'OK.'"
Webb, whose specialty is ground balls, then got Edwin Encarnacion to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.
