TORONTO -- After Rays centre fielder Desmond Jennings sent a ball deep to left field and into the second deck in the top of the fourth inning against the Blue Jays on Wednesday night, a shot that was ruled foul on the field, home-plate umpire Brian O'Nora called for a crew chief review.
Rays manager Joe Maddon had come out of the dugout to question the call, and O'Nora quickly moved to review the play, which happened with the score tied at 2. After one minute and 30 seconds, the play was confirmed to be a foul ball.
Blue Jays second baseman Brett Lawrie was then confirmed safe after a Maddon challenge in the bottom half of the inning when Lawrie hit a dribbler for an infield single. Yunel Escobar fielded the ball and fired to first, but Lawrie appeared to beat the throw by a half-step.
Maddon again came out of the dugout and exchanged words with first-base umpire Doug Eddings before calling for a manager's review. After 32 seconds, the call on the field was confirmed.
