ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays second baseman was scratched from the starting lineup on Tuesday with back spasms, the team announced before the Rays' 15-1 win over the Padres. took over at second and batted leadoff.
Forsythe felt his back lock up while getting treatment before the game. Rays manager Kevin Cash said the team will make a decision on Wednesday morning on whether he'll be able to play in the final game of Tampa Bay's series with San Diego.
"It just locked up on him," Cash said after the game. "I don't think anyone has a real explanation. I think he feels a little bit better."
Forsythe had five home runs in the past nine games, including a long two-run shot on Monday night. The severity of the back spasms is unknown. On the season, he's hitting .280 with 15 home runs and 38 RBIs.
