Jennings sits out Sunday with sprained finger

ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays center fielder Desmond Jennings was held out of Sunday's lineup because of a sprained left middle finger.

Jennings sustained the injury while sliding after stealing second base in the bottom of the 10th inning on Saturday.

Jennings said the finger was sore and sported a splint Sunday, but X-rays came back negative. He said it does not feel like something that would necessitate a move to the disabled list.

"It doesn't feel broken," he said.

Jennings is hitting .274 since July 1 and has reestablished himself as the Rays' leadoff hitter, having stolen 17 bases this season.
