Rays set roster for Wild Card Game vs. Indians

CLEVELAND -- The Rays set their roster for Wednesday night's American League Wild Card Game (watch the game on TBS at 8 p.m. ET).

Because of the one-and-done fashion of the game, preparing the roster was different than preparing a roster for a playoff series with multiple games. That made for a different look for the roster that had to be reduced from 38 to 25 players.

Starting pitchers David Price and Jeremy Hellickson were not included on the roster. Price pitched a complete game in Monday night's tiebreaker game against the Rangers and Hellickson could be asked to start if the team advances to the AL Division Series.

By not using roster spots for the two starting pitchers, the Rays were able to include additional relief pitchers and position players on the roster.

Of note, the Rays opted to keep three catchers, leaving Chris Gimenez on the roster. And they kept outfielder Kevin Kiermaier, who joined the team prior to Monday's tiebreaker game in Texas.

If needed, the team can use left-handers Jake McGee, Matt Moore, Alex Torres and Wesley Wright out of the bullpen.

Here is the entire roster:

Pitchers: Chris Archer, Alex Cobb, McGee, Moore, Joel Peralta, Fernando Rodney, Torres, Jamey Wright, Wesley Wright

Catchers: Gimenez, Jose Lobaton, Jose Molina

Infielders: Yunel Escobar, James Loney, Evan Longoria, Ben Zobrist

Outfielders: David DeJesus, Sam Fuld, Desmond Jennings, Kelly Johnson, Matt Joyce, Kiermaier, Wil Myers, Sean Rodriguez

DH: Delmon Young
