Rays Open on March 31 at Fenway Park; Home Opener is April 8 vs. Orioles

August 4th, 2021

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Tampa Bay Rays have released their 2022 regular-season schedule, which opens with a six-game road trip against the Boston Red Sox (March 31–April 3) and Toronto Blue Jays (April 4-6). All 30 major league clubs released their 2022 schedules today. The schedule is subject to change, and game times will be announced at a later date. The 2022 Rays season is presented by Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

The 2022 season marks the second consecutive year the Rays open on the road, following a streak of 11 straight Opening Day games at home from 2010-20. It will be the second time the Rays are opening at Fenway Park and ninth time they are opening away from Tropicana Field, going 4-4 in the previous eight games. Overall, it will be the fourth time the Rays face the Red Sox on Opening Day, following 2018 (won 6-4 at home), 2009 (lost 5-3 at Fenway Park) and 2003 (won 6-4 at home).

The Rays will play their home opener against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday, April 8, beginning a seven-game homestand against the Orioles (April 8-10) and Oakland Athletics (April 11-14). It will be the sixth time the Rays host the Orioles in their home opener (2006, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015), and the only win came in walk-off fashion on April 6, 2010.

All 30 clubs are scheduled to open their season on the same date in 2022. In addition, Opening Day in 2022 could become the first season since 1968 that every team across the majors plays their first game of the season on the same day.

The Rays will face all five teams from the National League Central and continue their annual home-and-home series with the Miami Marlins, totaling 20 interleague games for the 10th straight season. The Rays are scheduled to host the Marlins (May 24-25), St. Louis Cardinals (June 7-9), Pittsburgh Pirates (June 24-26) and Milwaukee Brewers (June 28-29). They will play interleague road series against the Chicago Cubs (April 18-20), Cincinnati Reds (July 8-10), Brewers (August 9-10) and Marlins (August 30-31).

The Rays will play 19 games against each of their division rivals: the Blue Jays (9 home, 10 away), Orioles (9 home, 10 away), Red Sox (10 home, 9 away) and New York Yankees (10 home, 9 away). The schedule features two home weekend series against the Yankees (May 27-29 and September 2-4). The Rays will play seven games against the Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers. They will have six games apiece against the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins.

The Rays end the season on a six-game road trip to Cleveland (September 27-29) and Houston (September 30–October 2).
