Marty Brennaman to raise $20,000 for Reds Community Fund by shaving his head

CINCINNATI (July 31, 2012) — Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman will shave his head live on the field after the Friday, August 3rd Reds vs. Pirates game (7:10 p.m.) at Great American Ball Park if fans donate $20,000 or more to the Reds Community Fund.

Earlier this season, Marty went on record to say that if the Reds win 10 straight games this year, he’ll shave his head bald. On Sunday, the Reds defeated the Colorado Rockies 7-2 to mark their 10th win in a row.

“And this one belongs to the Reds! Cincinnati has won 10 in a row and I’m gonna shave my head absolutely bald,” Brennaman said after Sunday’s win.

In an effort to raise money for the Reds Community Fund, Marty has pledges to help out the charity that is focused on getting more kids to play baseball across Reds Country.

“If the fans can raise $20,000 or more for the Reds Community Fund, I will agree to have it done on the field after the game and before the fireworks,” said Brennaman. “I’m taking this opportunity to make good on my promise to shave my head while encouraging fans to make a donation to a charity that is very close to my heart.”

How to donate to the Reds Community Fund:

On the web: (click on “Support the Reds Community Fund”)

By phone: Reds Community Fund office at (513) 765-7234

At the ballpark: Make a cash donation in the giant Reds Piggy Bank located on the Terrace Level behind home plate

***Individuals or businesses who donate $500 or more will receive two tickets to Friday’s game and the opportunity to see Marty’s haircut and post-game festivities live from the field. (Limited number of tickets available)

If donations do not reach $20,000, Marty will still have his head shaved in private by his personal barber and reveal his new dome for fans to see at Friday night’s game.

Friday’s game is being billed as a “Marty Party” to celebrate Marty’s 70th birthday. (Marty turned 70 on July 28.)

Immediately following the game, Marty will be presented with a cake and the crowd will join together to sing “Happy Birthday” to the Hall of Famer.

The post-game Rozzi’s fireworks show will feature a soundtrack picked by Marty including songs by The Beach Boys, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons, The Eagles, Chicago, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and more.

 Marty’s 70 best radio calls

Marty’s top radio moments will be played throughout the game on Friday. In honor of his 70th birthday, 70 of Marty’s greatest calls and sound clips have been posted on, ranging in categories from historic calls in Reds history to off-beat moments.
