Sunday's top prospect performers

D-backs top prospect Corbin Carroll and No. 13 Seth Beer came out swinging Sunday, combining for four extra-base hits, five runs scored and three RBIs.
Batting from his customary leadoff spot, Carroll filled up the box score in High-A Hillsboro's 8-7, extra-inning loss to Everett. Baseball's No. 38 overall prospect finished a double shy of the cycle, scored four runs, drove in two, stole two bases and walked to continue a strong start to 2021. Carroll is batting .333/.455/.722 with three extra-base hits, seven runs and four walks in his first five games.
The 20-year-old is tied for the Minor League lead with two triples and his first long ball of the year evened the score in the ninth inning. The 16th overall pick in 2019 has reached safely in all five games to begin 2021.
Like Carroll, Beer has gotten off to a strong start in 2021. The 24-year-old doubled twice, drove in a run and scored once as part of his third multi-hit effort in four games to lead Triple-A Reno past Salt Lake, 8-3. Beer is batting .444/.474/.889 with a homer, three RBIs and a Minor League-best five doubles in his first four contests.
The 2018 first-round pick put together a strong first full-season campaign two years ago, slugging 26 homers and driving in 103 runs with the D-backs' and Astros organizations.
Here's a look at other top prospect performers from around the Minor Leagues on Sunday:
Peraza matched a career-best with his third four-hit effort since 2018. The 20-year-old led off the game with a base knock to right field, legged out infield hits to short in the fourth and sixth, and found grass in right again in the seventh. Peraza also swiped a pair of bags and came around to score twice. The Venezuela native is 6-for-10 with a double, a walk and five stolen bases in his last two games. He is 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts this season. Medina turned in his second straight scoreless outing. The flame-throwing right-hander worked around a hit and a walk to whiff seven over five frames. Medina (1-0) retired the first eight batters he faced – four via punchout – before issuing a four-pitch walk to Logan O’Hoppe. Still, the 22-year-old faced the minimum the rest of the way. The Dominican native has allowed a pair of hits and four walks while fanning 15 over nine frames this season. He is sporting a 0.67 WHIP and .071 average against. Florial blasted a solo shot to right-center field in the bottom of the first inning to open the Patriots scoring and kick off a three-run frame for the club. The roundtripper was his third in three games and extended his hitting streak to all six games he’s appeared in this season. The lefty-swinging outfielder is sporting a .318/.400/.955 slash line with four jacks, a pair of doubles, six RBIs and five runs scored this year. Hauver connected for his sixth dinger of the year and has now homered in each of his first five career professional games. Pirates: Miguel Yajure, RHP (No. 12), Triple-A Indianapolis
Sammy Siani, OF (No. 19), Low-A Bradenton
Despite being on the losing end of a no-hitter, Yajure turned in a terrific outing of his own in his season debut. The Indianapolis starter threw six innings and allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks in a losing effort to Iowa. Siani turned in monster day at the plate for Bradenton in their 18-9 win. The lefty outfielder went 3-for-4 with a homer and two doubles, drove in five runs, scored two, and walked twice. The 20-year-old started the season 1-for-13, but raised his slash line to .235/.409/.588 with a .997 OPS after racking up eight total bases. Pirates prospects stats »
Padres: CJ Abrams, SS (MLB No. 8), Double-A San Antonio
Abrams launched his first home run and recorded his first three-hit performance of the season in San Antonio’s 7-5 victory over Corpus Christi. The sixth overall pick in the 2019 Draft went 3-for-5 at the plate and knocked his two-run homer in the fifth inning to cut San Antonio’s deficit to two runs. Abrams flashed his 60-grade hit tool throughout first professional season, ending 2019 with a .393/.436/.647 slash line and 21 multi-hit games, including eight games with three or more knocks. Orioles: Grayson Rodriguez, RHP (MLB No. 22), High-A Aberdeen
Rodriguez had a short but effective start in Aberdeen’s 6-5 loss to Wilmington. The Orioles No. 2 prospect tossed 3 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts, allowed four hits, and gave up one run. The No. 11 overall pick in the 2018 Draft has had a stellar start to his 2021 season, with a 1.23 ERA in his first two starts. Rodriguez has recorded 12 punch-outs to four walks in 7 1/3 innings, and has held opposing hitters to a .192 batting average against. Orioles prospects stats »
Marlins: Jesús Sánchez, OF (No. 6), Triple-A Jacksonville
Sanchez continued his red-hot start to the 2021 season in Jacksonville’s 9-7 win over Norfolk. The 23-year-old recorded his fifth multi-hit performance in his first six games of the year, turning in a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Sanchez roped his second triple of the year, driving in a run and scoring on an error to finish the play. The outfielder showed off his 55-grade arm with a run saving outfield assist from right field in the third inning. Sanchez has gone 12-for-22 at the plate through six games and is slashing an unbelievable .545/.565/1.091 with an OPS of 1.656 to start the year. Marlins prospects stats »
Rays: Josh Lowe, OF (No.11), Triple-A Durham
The 2016 first-rounder produced his second straight multi-hit effort, homered for the second straight night and extended his hitting streak to three games on Sunday. Lowe capped a three-run opening frame for the Bulls with a two-run blast to left-center. Two innings later, he laced a two-run double down the left-field line. Angels: Kyren Paris, SS (No. 6), Low-A Inland Empire
The 2019 second-rounder put an exclamation point on what was already a career performance with a walkoff knock. Paris bookended the scoring for the 66ers as he drove in the team's first run with an RBI single to center in the first. After stealing second, he came in to score on a Jeremiah Jackson double. The 19-year-old had a bloop drop in for a hit in the fourth, led of the ninth with his second triple of the year, and finished the evening playing the hero as he hammered a ball off the wall in left in the 11th inning to secure the victory. Mariners: Julio Rodriguez, OF (MLB No. 5), High-A Everett
The second-ranked Mariners prospect turned in his second multi-hit effort of the year while extending his hitting streak to four games. Rodriguez motored around the basepaths for his first triple of the season with one out in the sixth before playing the hero in extra innings. The 20-year-old punched a ground ball back up the middle for an RBI single to lead off the 10th. He promptly stole second and then came around to score an insurance run for the AquaSox on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Keenan. Reds: Lyon Richardson, RHP (No. 8), High-A Dayton
At some point this season, Richardson will likely give up a run, but he hasn't yet. The 21-year-old struck out six over five scoreless innings to pick up his first victory of the year. Richardson opened 2021 with three hitless frames for Dayton May 4 and although he surrendered four hits and a walk on Sunday, the right-hander was never seriously threatened. Through two starts, the Reds' 2018 second-round Draft pick has fanned nine and yielded four hits and four walks spanning eight innings. Reds prospects stats »
