Reds announce 'Tribute for Heroes' finalists

CHICAGO -- Three Reds fans are among the 90 finalists for Major League Baseball and People Magazine's "Tribute for Heroes" campaign, whose winners will be recognized on FOX before this year's All-Star Game on July 16.

Joseph Carroll (Blue Ash, Ohio), Eloy Campos (Cincinnati) and Benjamin Conger (Nederland, Texas) are the three Reds representatives in the campaign that honors veterans and military service members.

Fans can vote now for the winners at TributeForHeroes.com through June 30. Thirty winners -- one from each team -- will be recognized before this year's Midsummer Classic at Citi Field. A "Tribute for Heroes" winner will also be featured in the July 22 issue of "People," which hits newsstands on July 12.

The 90 finalists include veterans of World War II and the war in Afghanistan, 14 currently serving, 143 total awards (including one Medal of Honor and 17 Purple Hearts) and one Paralympic gold medalist.

The campaign supports Welcome Back Veterans, an MLB initiative that addresses the needs of returning veterans and their families after they return from service. Through the program, MLB has committed more than $23 million for grants to hospitals and clinics that provide treatment.
