CINCINNATI -- Reds outfielder Juan Duran received an 80-game suspension from Major League Baseball on Friday for testing positive for performance-enhancing substances that are in violation of Major League Baseball's joint drug prevention and treatment program.
Duran, who was suspended without pay, tested positive for the drugs Drostanolone, Stanozolol and Nandrolone.
"The Reds fully support Major League Baseball's drug policy and its penalties," the club said in a statement. "The organization does not condone in any way the use of drugs prohibited under the policy. We will have no further comment."
The 24-year-old Duran, who received a $2 million bonus when he was signed in 2008 as a 16-year-old in the Dominican Republic, is on Cincinnati's 40-man roster and had an outside chance of earning a spot on the Reds' squad, either in left field or on the bench.
Listed at 6-foot-7 and 231 pounds, Duran spent the 2015 season with Double-A Pensacola. He batted .256/.290/.438 with six home runs and 43 RBIs.
