CINCINNATI -- The Reds trimmed their 40-man roster on Wednesday with four roster moves.
Right-handed pitcher Luke Farrell was claimed off of waivers by the Cubs, while fellow right-handers Nick Travieso, Asher Wojciechowski and Alejandro Chacin cleared waivers and were sent outright to Triple-A Louisville. The moves left the Reds' 40-man roster at 36 players.
The move to Chicago marked Farrell's fourth organization this year. He had a 5.54 ERA in 10 big league games, including one start, for the Reds and Royals. On Sept. 23, he pitched an inning vs. the Red Sox, managed by father John Farrell.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first time in Major League history that a pitcher competed against a team managed by his father. It was also the first time since 2004 that a son played against a team managed by his father in the Majors. Outfielder Moises Alou of the Cubs against played vs. manager Felipe Alou's Giants.
Wojciechowski had a 6.50 ERA in 25 games, including eight starts, and 62 1/3 innings for Cincinnati. Chacin appeared in six games and had a 10.50 ERA over six innings.
Travieso, who was the Reds' first-round pick in the 2012 Draft, missed the entire 2017 season with a right shoulder injury that required surgery. The organization activated him from the 60-day disabled list before it placed him on waivers and took him off of the roster.
